| Red Hen, 2000, DV, 5 min. The traditional story of The Little Red Hen is twisted into something a little darker. In an homage to all the low-quality public access children's television programming that we all grew up with and never appreciated for the fine art form that it is, Red Hen is resplendent with grown people in dumb costumes. Hosted and narrated by the renowned Professor C.A. Beard. Written by Dr. J.G. Ells |

“Once upon a time there was a red hen who had never had an idea. One day she found a grain of wheat and formed a plan of action comprised of a series of labours. Part of the plan was to foist some of the labour off on a sheep, grasshopper, goose and pig, but each time she asked for help, say with tilling the soil, planting the seed, harvesting, grinding the flour, etc., the answer was always the same: Not I, said the sheep, grasshopper, goose and pig. But when the red hen asked who would help her eat the fresh bread she baked from the flour from the harvest the answer was: I will, said the sheep, grasshopper, goose and pig. But the red hen’s answer was the same as before: I will do it myself, and so she did. This so angered her hungry friends that they immediately devoured her. Moral: Sometimes it is best to keep one’s plans to oneself.” - J.G. Ells scroll down to see stills from the film |
